1. SPF 30 or Higher
For the most protection possible choose a sunscreen that is Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 or higher. Anything lower just doesn’t cut it. Also keep in mind that those that have SPF 40, 50, 60 and in some cases more doesn’t really make such a big difference, as you may think. The percentage difference is as much as 4% between SPF 15 and 30 and 1% difference between SPF 30 and 50. Thus, higher than SPF 30 won’t be that much better.
2. Broad Spectrum
You will find makeup and sunscreen that offers only one or the other that of Ultraviolet A (UVA) or Ultraviolet B (UVB) protection. However, both are as harmful since UVA is responsible for premature aging of the skin and UVB burns and tans the skin.
